Black cod, also known as sablefish, is a large fish that is quite different to the European cod that you may be used to. Antarctic black cod is a sub-ice dwelling fish and is one of the best varieties on the market. These fillet steaks are incredibly flavourful and tender due to a high oil content which helps the fish naturally fall apart into large, soft flakes once cooked. Black cod is a popular menu item in high class sushi bars in Japan thanks to its rich taste and it is also packed with high levels of Omega 3s. These fillet steaks are a great cut to cook with and offer the best parts of the cod too. We love serving these European or Asian style – the fish can be complemented by strong or subtle flavours depending on your personal preference. Black cod is most famously prepared with a miso and sake marinade in top restaurants such as Nobu – you can buy cod to marinate yourself or you could try our Miso Marinated Black Cod. The buttery flesh lends itself really well to sweet, salty flavours - just add some fine vegetable noodles and soy, and you have a date-night worthy meal sorted.
