Creating the perfect homemade burger begins with two ingredients: succulent beef patties and fluffy buns.
We have a wide selection of beef burgers at Fine Food Specialist, including A5 Wagyu beef and 28-Day dry-aged beef patties, but you are also welcome to swap them with our lamb burgers, Iberico pork patties, venison or veal burgers.
But a classic homemade burger shouldn't be boring. Adding flavourful toppings is the key to elevating simple homemade burgers. To avoid an over-loaded burger, choose the right toppings, and leave the forgettable fillers aside.
We have compiled a list of 5 of our favourite, most remarkable burger toppings.
Cheese
While cheese is an obvious burger topping, it can be difficult to know which is the best cheese for burgers. Cheese burger recipes can be as varied as burger recipes depending on the flavours you want and what kind of meat you use.
For instance, in order to truly experience an Iberico burger, we like to serve Manchego alongside our Iberico pork burgers.
Some of our favourite cheeses for burgers include iconic Cheddar, Provolone, Brie or a powerful and slightly melted blue cheese.

Truffle
Summer truffles and Perigord truffles can be thinly sliced or grated to add flavour to beef, pork, and chicken burgers. Try the white Alba truffle for its overpowering fragrance if you're looking for a truffle beef burger recipe in winter.
Cheeseburgers can also be elevated with truffle cheese slices, such as Snowdonia Black Truffle Cheddar, Truffle Pecorino or, our favourite, Tomme de Vache with Truffles.
Make your burger sparkle with truffle by serving it with chips, using our truffle dust or truffle oils.

Onions
One of the greatest, most versatile burger toppings is onions.
You can have them chopped and raw, for a little kick. Caramelised onions with Wagyu beef and mushrooms blend very well, while crispy fried onions offer the best texture pairing.
That's the beauty of onions in homemade burger recipes: they do it all.

Vegetables Relish
Chilli jam, relish, chutney, pickles, or any sort of marinated and fermented vegetables are a tasty addition to any burger. As well as adding texture, they may also add spicy, herby, or acidic flavours.
They make the perfect gourmet replacements for classic burger sauces.

Mushroom
For extra umami flavour, we love to add mushrooms to our burgers.
Depending on the season, you can add some Portobello mushrooms, fresh porcini mushrooms or morels.
