Cook a Sunday Lunch to Remember this Winter

Is there anything more comforting than a home-cooked Sunday lunch, enjoyed with family and friends? The focal point of the meal is often a piece of roast meat, and at Fine Food Specialist, we have a wide range of specialist pork, beef and lamb cuts (including many from top breeds such as Iberico and Wagyu), which will transform your meal into something memorable.

How to choose meat for a Sunday roast

It can be hard to know where to start when planning a Sunday lunch, but a great quality piece of meat makes a good starting point.

Chicken Spatchcock

The best roast beef

Many people choose to cook beef for a traditional Sunday lunch, and we have many cuts to choose from. For a really memorable meal, however, we suggest choosing Wagyu. Wagyu beef is some of the finest in the world, prized for its high fat marbling content, which means it’s very succulent and full of flavour.

For a very special occasion, try a large roasting joint like this Wagyu rib eye joint. Your guests will feel spoiled rotten and will talk about your lunch for many years to come! If you don’t want to roast a whole joint, however, a large steak will also work well. Select a large Wagyu steak from our range, cook it to your liking then slice it and serve in the centre of the table for everyone to help themselves.

If you are looking for something with the flavour of beef but lighter and incredibly tender, then veal could be the perfect meat. At Fine Food Specialist, we stock a stunning Dutch milk-fed veal sirloin roast, which is the perfect size for feeding a family. We also have a wider range of veal cuts including veal steaks, racks and cutlets.

The best roast lamb

Lamb makes a great choice for Sunday lunch, particularly slow cook larger cuts such as shoulder and leg. Why not try some of our milk-fed Pyrenees lamb or other specialist lamb for your next Sunday roast? Cook large cuts gently with vegetables and garlic and serve with a light, white wine-based gravy.

The best roast pork

We have a stunning range of specialist pork here at Fine Food Specialist, including Iberico pork. Our Iberico pork range includes Iberico belly pork, which is perfect for a Sunday unch showstopper. Start it off at a high temperature to bubble up that cracking then cook low and slow until the meat is incredibly tender. It wil be irresistible! Serve traditional British style with apple sauce and mashed potato, or try some Spanish flavours such as roasted red peppers seasoned with sherry vinegar.

Make sure to check out our full range of Iberico pork cuts such as collar, fillet presa, secreto and ribs to find th perfect cut for your needs. We also stock whole suckling pigs, which will never fail to impress your guests! The meat is very tender and the glass-like crackling the best you will ever taste.

The best roast chicken

For those who prefer chicken, our range of specialist poultry has you covered. We sell highly sought after breeds such as yellow leg and black leg chickens, and corn fed free-range birds. For those looking for something a bit different, we also sell ducks and a host of smaller birds - make sure to browse our full range to find the right roast for you.

The best side dishes for a Sunday roast

When it comes to a Sunday roast, some people prefer to stick with the favourites such as Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and cabbage, plus plenty of hot gravy! They are classics for a reason.

However, we have some alternative ideas: how about roasting a tray of tomatoes with lots of garlic, a splash of white wine and herbs until they break down turning gooey and jammy? Or try substituting starchy elements such as potatoes with other root vegetables - Jerusalem artichokes would be a great choice.
