Ponzu sauce is a classic Japanese condiment traditionally used as a dipping sauce for gyoza, sushi and sashimi. It is typically prepared by blending soy sauce with vinegar and Japanese citrus, such as yuzu, sudachi and kabosu.
This Ponzu sauce is made using exclusively high-quality yuzu, with the addition of shiitake mushrooms and kombu seaweed to give it an extra umami flavour.
The sauce was produced by Marusho's Vinegar Brewery, located at the base of the Kumano mountains in Wakayama, Japan. Family-owned and operated for four generations, the brewery holds giant cedarwood barrels where fermentation takes place for sauces and bottles of vinegar, some over 100 years old.
Used by master sushi chefs and home cooks alike, their products offer the authentic and sophisticated taste of traditional Japanese cuisine.
At Fine Food Specialist, we recommend using Ponzu sauce for marinating meats and fish, ensuring a sensational aromatic and tart touch to your marinades.
Why not try making Shabu Shabu? Ponzu is the Japanese people's long-time favourite sauce to go with this popular hotpot, which involves cooking meat and vegetables in a flavourful broth and then dipping them in various sauces.
